Today felt like first day at school. After full 3 months I had to drop my 9 year old at school. She is in grade 4. There she was in her mask and shield as we need to make sure that she is protected. She has been getting ready ever since it was announced that they will be going back to school. We even had a home made immune booster that she takes daily without fail.
Yesterday as were getting ready and putting her shield together we were both excited and looking forward to today. School gear put out and books packed school device charged.
Finally, the morning came, got ready and headed to school. I was also starting my first day at my ambitious course, that is a topic for another day.
As, we got closer to school, I got a little worried about how sure am I that she will be safe. You see, as a parent that feeling never goes away. Then the life coach in me kicked in. I remembered that we spoke about #integrity, doing whats right even if no one is watching. We had a lesson about honoring herself that means remembering that she needs to ensure that she does what is right for her. Therefore, she will remember not to take of her protective gear and she will wash her hands and sanitize plus keeping the social distance at all times. We spoke about #consent, that means her friends can never just jump and hug her, she has taught them that they needs to ask for her permission before they can get into her personal space. We spoke about change, we needed to have a whole skill set on change management as normal is no longer the kind of normal we know but a whole new game. She needs to sit 2metres away from her friends during break with a shield and a mask. Needs to learn new ways of doing things and accepting that it has all changed. Each time she goes in and out of the class or house, sanitise, wash hands, when you get home go straight into the shower. A lot has changed and it is too much for our kids without us adults making it worse.
You see as a life coach, I equip our kids and teens with skills to be able to cope in challenging times and be able to move forward.
